Appliqué

Appliqué is a way of creating a picture using layers of fabric. Once your pictures is separated into individual layers you stitch them on starting with the bottom layer (usually the largest) first. We will be making a basic one layer appliqué for your wall hanging. You must try to think of something that represents your identity, it could be a letter, a number or a simple silhouette shape.

Use the videos below to help you make your templates for your shape and cut out your felt. Then return to the embroidery page to help you stitch your fabric in place.

Here you can see how the appliqué is completed for the year 8 bag project. Yours is done in exactly the same way but should just be 1 or 2 layers to keep it simple. Challenge yourself by including different stitches.
