Tie Dye is a resist dye technique; wherever the string/elastic bands are, the fabric resists the dye (no dye reaches the fabric). By folding the fabric in different ways and tying the elastic bands in different places we can achieve different effects and patterns as you can see from the images below.
Your tie dye will be in one colour, choose your favourite pattern and looks at the pictures under each one to see how to achieve this affect.
Spirals
1- Pinch centre
2- Twist into a spiral
3- Secure with bands
Marble
1- Crush the fabric into a ball
2- Secure tightly with no more than 2 bands
Circle
1- Pinch centre
2- Pull into cone shape
3- Tie tightly with bands-thicker bands=thicker circles
Stripes
1- Pleat the fabric
(fold it like a fan)
2- Tie tightly at intervals
