Before you start designing it is important to know what you are designing for. These tasks will get you to think about your collection and plan ahead which will help you in the future sessions.
1- In the BACK of your sketchbook create a title page with a name for your new collection. The name should reflect the style you have chosen and your culture. For example because i am looking at the Alhambra palace in my main project, so Spanish culture, mine could be a menswear tailoring collection called ‘TORO’ (bull in Spanish) or a ladies evening wear collection called 'FLAMENCA' .
2- Once you have your new collection title use the information below to make decisions about what your collection will be like. Write down 1 sentence for each of the headings explaining the decisions you have made. This will guide your future work.
Things to consider:
Your chosen culture and pattern work- Your storage case and your fashion collection should reflect the culture you chose.
Shapes- What shapes and patterns appear in the culture research you did? Use them!
Colour palette- Look at the colours in your research, pick no more than 5-6 colours that appear and that coordinate well together- think of your colour theory knowledge from art. This is your colour palette
Fabrics- Think about what fabric your collection would be made out of- are they suitable for the style you have chosen? Think about what the item would be used for- it is important to think about this during the design process for example a hoodie made out of net would be a terrible idea!
Style- tailoring/sportswear/casual- Make a decision about what style you want to work with and stick with it- all your other decisions need to reflect this to make sure you are choosing the right fabrics/colours/shapes. EXAMPLES: SPORTSWEAR/ DRESSES/ PYJAMAS/ TAILORING
3- It may also help you to create another moodboard which you can add to your fashion project portfolio. Look up colour palettes (like the one on the left) online and create your own in your book.
