Step 1- roll the ink or paint onto the Gelli plate and place your objects or stencil on top.
Step 2- Place your paper or fabric over the top and smooth your hand over it, making sure you press all over any objects you have placed on the plate. Then peel back.
Step 3- Below are just 4 examples of different types of Gelli prints but you can achieve lots of unique images- layer up different prints to create exciting textures and colour contrasts.
Using photocopies/magazines to create a gelli print
You can use newspapers, magazine pages or photocopies to create gelli prints as well. With photocopies this requires quite a bit of testing to get the image right- it should be a high contrast black and white image for the best results.
Step 1- apply black paint to the gelli plate
Step 2- place photocopy ink side down onto the plate and apply firm even pressure with a roller
Step 3- peel back to reveal the image which should have transferred onto the plate
Step 4- place paper or fabric onto the plate to lift the image, before doing this you can apply colours to certain areas followed by another layer of paint to help lift the image onto the surface of your paper or fabric
