Monoprinting is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once,
unlike most printmaking, where there are multiple originals.
There are many techniques for monoprinting including gelli plate printing.
Using leaves to mono prints
You can create simple mono prints using an ink tray, roller and a tiny amount of ink.
1- roll the ink out so it covers the tray- less is more, it won't work with too much ink!
2- place leaf into the ink
3- lay fabric over the tray and roll over with clean roller, peel back to reveal print 1 (negative space)
4- remove the leaf, place it ink side down on a new piece of fabric, roll over with clean roller, peel back to reveal print 2 (positive space)
5- with a 3rd piece of fabric return to your tray (now minus the leaf,) press and roll over fabric to reveal print 3 (ghost print)
Print 1- negative space
Print 2- Positive space
Print 3- Ghost Print
Freestyle Drawing
These 3 examples were created by rolling a thin layer of ink into a tray and then using the end of a pencil to draw into the ink. Fabric was then placed over the top and smoothed down into the ink and peeled off to create a print.
