To neaten the raw edges of your fabric we will be using an overlocker. This is a different type of sewing machine which cuts at the same time as sewing a loopy stitch to strengthen the edge of the fabric.
REMEMBER: HAIR TIED BACK, TIES TUCKED IN, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING SILVER AND LET IT GO........!
The casing is the tunnel at the top of the bag which encases the strings so the bag can close. This is the same technique used on the waistband of trousers/skirts and on the wrists of some jumpers/tops.
The tabs are the loops of webbing material that are at the bottom on each side of the bag. These hold the strings in place to create neat straps so you can wear the bag on your back.
A seam is a join between 2 pieces of fabric. This is where we will join the decorated front of your bag to the plain back. All previous steps MUST be completed before you start this process.
The drawstrings are what allow us to close the bag and wear it on our back. There are 2 strings, both of them go all the way round the top of the bag and then they each go down to one of the tabs to be secured in place.
